Charles Moolman
(Executive Chairperson and Pharmaceutical Director), BPharm [52]


Charles was born in Ermelo, matriculated in 1974 and distinguished himself as a leader in the areas of sport, culture and management. He completed a BPharm degree at the University of Potchefstroom and fulfilled a leadership role in Pharmaceutical Students’ Federations in South Africa. He managed Pharmachem Pharmacy in Ermelo in a partnership since 1984 and became sole owner in 1990. During this time he was actively involved in the retail pharmacy industry, registered with the South African Pharmacy Board and Pharmaceutical Society. During this period he served in various leadership roles in the community and was a pivotal player in the forming of the Ermelo Development Forum in 1992, where he also acted as chairman. He was elected as a councillor of the Ermelo Town Council in 1995 and resigned in 1999 when he relocated to Centurion.

Together with Wessel de Wet, he founded Placécol Cosmetics in 1997 and is responsible for the research and development, manufacturing and training aspects of the Placécol brand and range of products, as well as the management of some of the affiliated companies in the Placécol Group.


Wessel de Wet
(Chief Executive Officer), BCom [51]


After completing his BCom degree,Wessel managed a family agriculture business in Ermelo. His uncompromising levels of excellence and the setting of high standards enabled the business to expand and become recognised as one of the leading agricultural produce suppliers in the region at that time.

In 1997 in pursuit of greater challenges, he joined forces with a good personal friend, Charles Moolman, to acquire the rights to an exciting new skin care concept, Placécol. Under their leadership the original Placécol Cosmetics has evolved into one of South Africa’s pivotal skin care groups.

Demonstrating the ability to choose and motivate exceptional achievers, many of whom have brought with them unique expertise and industry intellectual knowledge, Placécol has been able to provide affordable and effective skin care treatments and has grown rapidly from a small regional player to one of South Africa’s leading skin care companies, creating a national and respected brand in the market with minimal investment by the shareholders.

A visionary who is able to identify opportunities and quickly implement strategies,Wessel, with his colleague, has managed to establish a diverse and vertically integrated group that is well-positioned to take advantage of the many strategic advantages that is has created for itself in many segments of the skin care market including, manufacturing, product development and formulation, supplying skin care products and services on a national basis, supplying internationally accredited beauty therapists and also participating in the national retail market through its own chain of self-owned and franchised stores.


Sean Morgan
(Chief Financial Officer), CA (SA) - RAU/UCT


Sean Morgan is a qualified CA and has 11 years experience in the financial environment. He served as CFO of Pratt & Wittney Canada (Africa), a global leader in aerospace from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that he was with Group Five – Intertoll where he was in the position of financial manager.


Constance (Connie) Nkosi
(Independent Non-Executive Director), MBA (Wits Business School), BA in Psychology and a diploma in Management in the Service Industry from the Wharton School of Business in the USA {appointed 25 August 2008} [62]


Connie was appointed to the board of directors in August 2008. She brings a wealth of experience as a business strategist and BEE policy advisor. She is one of the founding members of the Black Management Forum and serves on the boards of Pick n Pay Limited, Spescom Limited and Protech Khuthele Holdings Limited as a non-executive director. Connie is also Executive Chair for Lidonga Group Holdings.

Theo Schoeman ( 44 years)

Theo is registered chartered accountant and has a special interest to unlock value in business. After articles at Coopers & Lybrand (Now PricewaterhouseCoopers) he was involved with a number of turnarounds, corporate finance and consultation.

Theo comes from a corporate finance background and was involved with listing of the first BEE listing of New Africa Investments Limited. He was involved with industry consolidation and several corporate actions, new business setup and development. He has a wide experience in negotiations, structuring and implementation of business. He has international experience where he worked for a German listed company and for a SA listed company with several projects in Europe, USA and Russia.

Theo becomes very involved in management of companies and has been a Managing Director of a couple of companies. Theo believes in developing and training the right team of people to manage companies and projects and to empower people to reach their targets.

As entrepreneur in Centurion, he is the chairman of the Centurion Academy for higher education. The Academy grows at more than 30% per annum since he got involved at the end of 2004. He has been rewarded as the Centurion Businessman of the year in 2005.

Corné Nel
(General Manager - Placécol)


Corné matriculated in 1986, and obtained his BCom degree at the Military Academy, a facility of the University of Stellenbosch, in 1990. He began his career in the fast moving consumer goods industry as a sales representative at SAB before moving to Woolworths as a Foods Manager where he gained experience in various aspects of retail management within the group. Corne then joined the Smollan group as a General manager and shareholder, managing the Smollan Sales and Marketing Inland region. After a three year contract in Saudi Arabia as Sales and Trade Marketing Manager, he joined KWV as National Sales Manager. He was subsequently promoted to Sales Manager Africa Middle East and was General Manager Africa Middle East Division when he left to join Placécol. Corné obtained his MBA in marketing from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.
 


Karen Coomber
(General Manager for CW)


Karen, as the Technical Manager of Placécol, is responsible to ensure that existing skin care product formulations are kept in line with the latest technological developments and also assists with the research and development of all new product formulations. Karen also assumes responsibility for the manufacturing of all products.

Karen gained her experience during a career of 17 years at companies such as Premier Foods, Akromed Pharmaceuticals and Amka Cosmetics in the research and development departments, where she was responsible for quality control, validations, formulations and research, specifically in hair and skin care development. She joined the group in 2004 and has since then assisted with the roll out of the new Platinum skin care range, which has specifically been developed for more mature skin types and with the development of the new ethnic skin care range.


Tracy Chambers
(Principal Placécol Beauty Institute) B-Tech Somatology


Tracy commenced her career as a beauty therapist in 1988. She also owned her own business for a couple of years but realised she had a passion to train people. Tracy was the Head of Department at the Technikon Witwatersrand for 8 years before she joined Placécol in 2004. She is a board member of SAAHSP since 1998 and is also the Education Chairperson of SAAHSP. Tracy has been a course evaluator of the Council of Higher Education since 2003.
